Applying for the Apprenticeship
APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED FROM SEPTEMBER 1 THROUGH MAY 31 EACH YEAR!
All applicants must meet the minimum qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age;
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent GED
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties of an apprentice
High School Students
Applications may be filled out and submitted if you are age 17 but will remain pending until your high school diploma has been obtained and you are 18 years of age. You are also permitted to take the Aptitude test in the spring before you Graduate.
Follow these step to apply:
Step 1 – Review the information on the Apprenticeship Homepage
Step 2 – Complete the online Application and submit it
Step 3 – Submit a copy of your State I.D. and a copy of your High School transcripts or GED by doing one of the following options:
- Email a copy of the information to Apps@UAlocal396Training.org
- Fax a copy to (330) 758-4598
- Mail a copy to LU 396, 493 Bev Rd Bldg 3, Boardman, Ohio 44512
- Deliver in person to above address Monday through Friday from 8:00 am through 4:30 pm
*If your State I.D. and transcripts have not been received within 30 days of submitting your application your application will become null and void
Step 4 – After Application, State I.D., and Transcripts have been submitted and reviewed by LU 396 JATC you will receive a notification by email or U.S. mail explaining when you are scheduled to take the aptitude test. There will be two scheduled tests per application year. The first will be in December and the second in May.
Step 5 – Following the Aptitude test you will receive notification of your score by U.S. mail. If you obtain a 70% or higher score on the aptitude test you will be eligible to advance to the interview process. All Applicants that receive a 70% or higher will receive another notification by email or U.S. mail with the time they must appear for their interview.
Step 6 – Following the interview each Applicant will be placed on the "Ranking list “based on their overall score from the Application process.
Step 7 – All Applicants on the “Ranking List” will be reviewed by the JATC and the number of new Apprentices will be chosen based on the Local’s need for manpower. You will receive a notification following the interview notifying you of your placement on the ranking list and whether or not you have been accepted into this year’s class.
*If you do not make it into this year’s class you will remain on the “Ranking List” as an alternate for two years past the interview date.
